In 2013 my mom lived on the streets for a few months and it completely changed the way I view homelessness.
Although most of my life I’ve been passionate about helping social issues, homelessness was always
at the bottom of the list.

Then when my mom became homeless it completely changed my paradigm because she is the
hardest working woman I know. She has two college degrees, managed
restaurants, and raised my sister and I primarily by herself.
During her journey on the streets I had so much anger and confusion and sadness and
so many other emotions that it almost got me to a place of hopelessness, yet I knew I wanted to do something.
I started calling my local homeless shelters to ask what they needed most. They all said

That’s when I came up with the idea of Sackcloth & Ashes. I wanted to take the "one for
one" business model a step further and evolve it. So I made it local. I wanted to give
people an opportunity to make a difference down the road from their home.
For every blanket you purchase, we give a blanket to your local homeless shelter.
